Start to finish

23 minutes of grinding, compressed into 23 seconds.

This time-lapse demonstrates a basic “grind and go” job where a large stump is turned into a big mound of mulch. On “grind and go” jobs, I can either neatly pile the grindings over the hole or rake them out flat, depending on your preference.

Although my machine is capable of grinding 23" below grade, it is typical to stop around 6" to 8", which is sufficient to plant grass over and prevent stump regrowth. This minimizes the amount of chips generated and soil disturbed.

If you want to replant, set a post, or pour a foundation, I can grind deeper.

Who I work for

Homeowners

One stump or a whole yard full. Tripping hazards, mower killers, the sprouting mess left over from a removal. I own and maintain my own equipment. I'm also the guy who estimates your job and shows up to do the work. Standard grind is six to eight inches below grade, deep enough if you want to grow grass in its place. Want to plant something new in that spot? I can grind up to 23" down.

Tree services

I grind only, no tree work ever. When you're too busy to keep up, sub me the stumps you don't want to deal with, including the big ones. I run a Bandit SG-75. I offer volume pricing, carry a $1M/$2M GL policy, and send before-and-after photos after every job. My job is to reflect positively on you and your company.

HOAs and property managers

Nobody needs to be home. Send me the address and I'll handle it, including calling 811 for the utility locate. You get before-and-after photos of every stump for your records, a clean itemized invoice, and a certificate of insurance naming you as certificate holder. Volume pricing on multiple stumps or multiple properties, and if you're working against a closing or a board meeting, tell me the date.

What to expect

1

You call or text

Send a photo if you can. It's usually enough for me to price the job without driving out, and the estimate comes back same day.

2

We get it on the calendar

Most jobs can be scheduled within a week. I call 811 before every job to protect both of us, and they need three business days, which is why I can't grind tomorrow.

3

The day of

You get an arrival window, sent to you the day before, not a vague “sometime Tuesday.” If anything moves, I call you as soon as I know, not after I'm already late.

4

Before I leave

If you're home, I'll walk it with you to make sure you're satisfied. If you're not home, I'll text you some photos!

Frequently asked questions

How deep do you grind?

Standard grinding depth is 6 to 8 inches below grade, which is past the point where a stump will resprout and sufficient if your goal is to plant grass. If you're replanting, putting in a fence post, or pouring concrete, my machine can go up to 23" down. Give me a call to discuss!

What happens to the grindings?

By default I rake them back into the hole and either push them into a neat pile or grade them level, which is what most people want. I can also relocate them somewhere else on your property, or do haul-off for an additional charge.

Do you call 811?

I call 811 on every job to protect your property and my own wellbeing. It is also the law. 811 calls are typically completed in 3 business days or less, and are completely free.

Will it tear up my yard?

My machine runs on rubber tracks, which spread the weight out and are gentler on your grass than wheels. It's still heavy equipment though, so expect some scuffing on slopes or soft ground, and grinding throws chips and dirt around the work area. I rake it back out before I leave. If your lawn needs to stay pristine, tell me up front. I can lay down mats in the traffic path and schedule around wet weather.

Are you insured?

General liability and commercial auto, both current. Happy to send a certificate to you or your HOA before I show up.

Do you do tree removal?

No. Grinding only. That's deliberate, because it means local tree services can send me work without wondering if I'm going to be bidding their next job. I am happy to provide a referral to one of the fantastic companies I work with.
